A full Sovereign’s metal reference is calculated from the Royal Mint’s documented nominal weight and fineness for the specified bullion standard. This page uses 7.988 grams at 916.7 parts per thousand, approximately 7.3226 grams of fine gold. It does not use a full troy ounce. Proof quality, date, condition, rarity and the dealer’s retail terms are not valued by this formula.
Fine-metal formula
Quantity × 7.988 g × 0.9167 × fine-gram reference
Fine-gram reference = USD/troy ounce ÷ 31.1034768 × daily reference FX. Fineness is never applied twice.
Full Sovereign or a smaller denomination?
A half or quarter Sovereign is a different denomination. The count on this page refers to full Sovereigns, not arbitrary fractions of a coin. Confirm the product specification with the seller.
Nominal and assessed weight
The calculation uses a documented nominal standard. Circulated items can require assessment, and other Sovereign product specifications should be checked individually. This is not a guarantee of the weighed content of a particular coin.
