From gross weight to fine content
100 g × 0.925 = 92.5 g
This is a content example assuming the stated fineness is correct. Stones, fillers and non-metal components are excluded from the calculation weight. It is not an assay or a live quotation.

Enter the buyer’s price for this item per selected unit. Purity is not applied to this quote again.
Excludes fabrication, premiums, taxes and spreads.
Holdings calculation guideThe displayed spot reference is not a buyer’s quote for your actual item. A buyer may instead quote for each gram of your actual item. Establish that basis before applying fineness; a purity deduction must not be counted twice.
| Question | Illustrative calculation | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| How much fine silver? | 100 × 0.925 = 92.5 g | Metal content, assuming the stated fineness is correct |
| What is the theoretical reference? | 92.5 × 2.00 = 185.00 | Assumed 2.00 currency units per fine gram; no transaction promised |
| What would this buyer pay? | 100 × 1.70 − 5 = 165.00 | Assumed 1.70 per gross item gram, less a total 5 fee |
In the last row, use 100 item grams—not 92.5 fine grams—because the stated bid already prices the 925 item. If the buyer quotes per fine gram instead, 92.5 is the relevant weight. Use the same currency and confirm the buyer accepts your actual item; arithmetic is not an assay or an executable offer.

A 999 bar and 925 jewellery have different fine content. Ask whether the bid is per fine gram, per gross gram or per whole item. Do not reduce an item-specific bid again if it already accounts for fineness.
For resale, use the dealer’s bid. Multiply the matched quantity by that bid and subtract percentage charges and fixed fees for net proceeds. Confirm the quote’s validity period and whether partial sales are accepted.
Compare dealer offers| Purity | Fine grams | Metal reference |
|---|---|---|
| 999 | 0.999 g | £1.30 |

| 800 | 0.8 g | £1.04 |
This values metal content, not a product buy or sell quote. A delayed source also means a delayed table reference.
In a 925 silver item, 92.5% of product weight is fine silver. One kilogram of a 925 item contains 925 g of fine silver.
Multiply net metal weight by 0.925 to obtain theoretical fine content, then use the fine-gram reference. An illustrative hundred-gram item made entirely from 925 metal has 92.5 theoretical fine grams. Using gross weight that includes stones or fillers can overstate metal value.
The fine-metal calculation values content only. Design, fabrication, distribution and product margins can change a retail price. Do not assume these costs are recovered on resale. Ask the actual buyer about acceptance conditions, the current bid and deductions for your item.
Use the same currency, fineness and trade direction. Divide the per-kilo amount by 1,000 for a per-gram amount. Fixed fees have different per-gram effects at different quantities, however. Compare the total cost or net proceeds for the same transaction quantity.

Read the guideA per-gram value is the same-currency troy-ounce reference divided by 31.1034768. The displayed value refers to fine metal. Multiplying it by gross weight without applying purity can overstate the contained metal value. Keep packaging, stones and other non-metal components separate from the holding’s net metal weight.
The following figures are a worked example, not current prices. Illustrative USD/troy-ounce reference: 31. 100 grams × 0.999 = 99.9 grams of fine silver. Illustrative metal value: 99.5676 USD.
This value is neither a dealer’s ask nor your net resale proceeds. Enter actual bid and ask quotes in the same unit and add total fees separately. Quotes taken at different times can also differ from a calculated reference. When changing currency in the calculator, remember that FX is a daily reference.
Physical silver purchases can involve different quantities than gold for the same budget, so assess delivery and storage charges using the actual offer. A 999 designation means 99.9% purity; a fine-gram reference is not identical to a product’s gross-gram price. A price screen does not authenticate purity. Check the certificate and testing conditions separately when needed.
