01 · Weight

From gross weight to fine content

1,000 g × 0.9999 = 999.9 g

This is a content example assuming the stated fineness is correct. Stones, fillers and non-metal components are excluded from the calculation weight. It is not an assay or a live quotation.

02 · Quote

Match the item and quantity

A bar, coin and jewellery item can carry different terms. Record the item, fineness, weight and count together. A premium paid for a packaged product may not be recovered in a buyback quote.

03 · Net amount

Compare what you receive

For resale, use the dealer’s bid. Multiply the matched quantity by that bid and subtract percentage charges and fixed fees for net proceeds. Confirm the quote’s validity period and whether partial sales are accepted.

Documented fineness can differ from a theoretical karat fraction: 585 is exactly 58.5%, while 14/24 is approximately 58.3333%.

Quote checks for this item

  • Establish whether the offer is per kg or for the complete item.
  • Do not apply a fine-gram quote directly to gross alloy weight.
  • Request the dealer ask when buying and the bid when selling, including fees and timestamp.

Gold per kilo: common questions

How many troy ounces are in a kilo of gold?

A kilogram is 1,000 grams. Dividing 1,000 by 31.1034768 gives about 32.1507466 troy ounces. This converts gross weight; fineness is a separate input when calculating fine gold content. Keep precision during the calculation and round the monetary result at the end.

How do 995 and 999.9 kilo bars differ in fine content?

The theoretical fine content of a 1,000-gram 995-fine item is 995 grams; for 999.9 fineness it is 999.9 grams, a difference of 4.9 grams. This does not assay the actual bar. Compare fineness, product terms, delivered cost and buyback bids rather than gross weight alone.

Can I model selling part of a kilo bar?

Arithmetic can value a fractional kilo, but that does not mean a dealer accepts a partial bar. If the product must be sold whole, use kilos and a sale increment of one in the cash-target tool. Confirm that the bid and fees apply to the complete product.

Units, purity and worked examples

Put a kilogram quote on the right scale

One kilogram is 1,000 grams; its ounce equivalent is 1,000 / 31.1034768. Apply the weight conversion and then product purity. At 995 fineness, a one-kilogram item contains 995 grams of fine metal. Match currency, timestamps and purity when comparing per-kilo and per-gram prices. Several smaller packaged products can cost more than one larger product with the same contained metal.

A worked valuation

The following figures are a worked example, not current prices. Illustrative USD/troy-ounce reference: 3,100. 1 kilograms × 0.995 = 995 grams of fine gold. Illustrative metal value: 99,168.9778 USD.

This value is neither a dealer’s ask nor your net resale proceeds. Enter actual bid and ask quotes in the same unit and add total fees separately. Quotes taken at different times can also differ from a calculated reference. When changing currency in the calculator, remember that FX is a daily reference.

Separate the product premium

Fabrication, minting, branding and packaging can add to a product’s price. Paying a premium does not establish that it will be recovered on resale. Compare fine content and total transaction cost rather than gross grams alone. Use the dealer ask when purchasing and the dealer bid when reselling.

Frequently asked questions

How often are metal references refreshed?

The source is queried at 60-second intervals. Each metal has its own timestamp; this is not a guarantee of an executable trade.

How is the local-currency ounce value calculated?

A USD/troy-ounce reference is multiplied by daily reference FX. A dealer’s executable exchange rate is not used.

How is gold per gram calculated?

Divide the ounce reference by 31.1034768, then apply reference FX, net weight and fineness as needed.

Is fine silver the same as 925 silver?

No. A 925 fineness describes 925 parts silver per thousand by weight. Stones, fillers and other metals must be treated separately.

Can I buy gold or silver at this value?

This is not an executable bank or dealer offer. Actual asks, premiums, fabrication, spreads and fees change the result.

Which price should I use for resale?

Use the dealer’s actual bid for your item. Do not deduct fineness twice if it is already reflected in that quote; enter commission and fixed fees separately.

What does the gold/silver ratio show?

It divides gold by silver on the same weight and currency basis with comparable timestamps. It is not a return forecast or investment recommendation.

What happens when source data is delayed?

The source time is shown. Metal records older than ten minutes are withheld from reference calculations; manual dealer-quote tools use your inputs.
