How much should I sell?
A holdings calculator starts with weight and estimates value. A cash need reverses the question: how much of your product must be sold to receive a specific net amount? Use the dealer bid for that product instead of spot or the dealer ask. The ask is what you pay when buying. Confirm the quoted weight unit, purity and validity time first.
Worked example with fees
Suppose you need 10,000 net, the bid is 100 per unit, commission is 1%, and the fixed fee is 20. Effective unit proceeds are 99. Unrounded quantity is (10,000 + 20) / 99 = 101.212121… . For whole-unit sales, set the increment to 1: you need 102 units. Gross proceeds are 10,200, commission is 102, the fixed fee is 20, and net proceeds are 10,078, exceeding the target by 78. These are illustrative amounts in one currency, not current prices.
Do not apply purity twice
A bid for a .995-fine product already describes that product. Do not multiply it by .995 again. The tool treats the entered price as the actual product bid. Exclude stones, fittings and other materials from net metal weight. A whole one-ounce bar and divisible metal do not share a sale increment. Set the increment to the quantity that can actually be sold, and enter holdings for the same product and unit.
Transaction checklist
- Confirm the product, purity, net weight and bid validity time.
- Check whether commission is charged on gross proceeds and ask for the fixed fee.
- Include tax, assay or delivery charges only when actual terms require them.
- Confirm settlement timing and whether the bid changes with quantity.
The model assumes one fixed fee and one percentage commission for a single transaction. If your holdings cannot cover the target, it shows the net shortfall without pretending unavailable metal has been sold. Calculate separately for different products, tiered pricing or multiple sales. Bids are entered manually; this tool does not supply live dealer quotes or execute sales.
